New Web Site!

Angela BensonWhen my twelve year old niece told me that my web site needed help, I knew I needed to do something but I wasn’t quite sure what. The new design that you see here represents my current thoughts on what my web site should be. It’s not a finished product yet, but I’m not sure it ever will be.

What I like best about the new site is the blogging feature that allows me to easily update you with news as it occurs. You’ll see that I’ve included news items about my upcoming book, The Amen Sisters, as well as news about the re-issue of one of my older romance titles. The blogging feature also allows you to comment on what you see and read on the site. So I invite you to join me in my ramblings and share your thoughts on my news. You can start by telling me how you like the new site, but don’t forget to read the other news on this page. Just scroll down and keep reading.

  1. Hi, I just have a couple of questions. Are you the same Angela Benson who wrote the book “Telling the Tale: The African-American Fiction Writer’s Guide?” If so, why do you not mention it on your site? I guess my real question is, do you still recommend the methods discussed in the book? If you are not the same Angela Benson, then please disregard. Thanks!

  2. Yes, I’m that Angela Benson. Thanks for reminding me. I have now listed Telling the Tale on the main page of the site. You should be aware though that the book is out of print and has been for a few years now.

Your question is a timely one because I’ve been thinking a lot about what I wrote in Telling the Tale. I think what I wrote still applies to genre fiction, but I’m not so sure about the points I made about mainstream fiction. I think that my guidelines might be a bit too stringent. In other words, there are many ways to tell a story and the way I presented in Telling the Tale is only one way; it’s not the only way.

Hope this helps! And thanks for posting the first comment to my site.

  3. Angela,
Love the new website! Especially the blog style. I’m new to blogging but now I’m hooked. Hope the new site brings you many dedicated readers.

  4. Hi Xenia! I didn’t know that was you. Thanks for joining the site. How was your lauch party? I’ve already ordered your book. Congrats on the great review in Romantic Times. Good going!

  5. Hi Angela,
I love the new website. I will have to research this blog thing, do not know anything about it. What happen to the book you were going to write on Stuart in the Gensis House series? My friend and I, where looking forward to reading about Stuart. I pray that God’s will, will be done in your life. You did good with this new website!

  6. Angela,
Several of our Adult Book Discussion Group members
have asked about you recently. I was delighted to find
your website. Hope all is going well.

We are excitedly looking forward to your newest book.
Please contact me about possible participation in our
December 10th DCPL 5th Book Club Conference.

  7. Hi Angela,

First of all, I love the new website. And secondly, I can’t wait for the new book! I read the excerpt and it was wonderful. I have read Abiding Hope and Awakening Mercy and was blessed by both of them. Will reply again after I’ve read the book but I know it will be wonderful! May God continue to bless you as you bless others with through your writing.

  8. My book launch party went great. Many people couldn’t come because work schedules & rush hour collided with the time, but as I always say, “the important people showed.” Hope you enjoy the book; and if you do, feel free to post a review on Amazon.

  9. Deni, I always type my manuscripts. I do know of two writers though who always handwrite theirs. I cannot imaigine doing that because it seems like double work, but it works well for those two writers. One does it to make use of her commuting time on the train each morning and the other because she is physically unable to sit at a computer for long periods of time. I say do what works best for you.

  10. Angela, I read your article in Precious Times. And I would love to spotlight Amen Sisters on my Christian Fiction Blog. and possibly post a review of it for Rejoice Atlanta News or Atlanta Christian Family Magazines.

  11. I really like the new site too. I was at your “old” one a few times and liked it, but I’m becoming more interested in the blogs though I try to limit the number I go to regularly.

Actually, I was able to put in a good word for Christian fiction at Chapters(Indigo,Coles), our only national bookstore chain. I was looking for another books when I spotted Francine Rivers’ “When the Shofar Blew” and “The Prince”. I remarked on them to the saleslady who was working in the row and told her about some of Francine’s that I read, e.g., the Lineage of Grace Books. She was really very open to them and said she’d like to read some of the books. She may be a Christian though she didn’t say.

I’ll look there for your books too. I don’t usually recommend many books unless asked but I do make an acception for friends and favorite authors. You’d hardly guess but I’m really quite shy and I don’t like to make a fuss about anything. But I will stand up for my convictions.

  12. One problem that I do have at the moment is finding other parts of the site. I’m sure you have more than the blog–things like bio and booklist.

Regarding bio, is it you who lives in Baton Rouge? If so, were you directly affected by Katrina? We actually ended up in Katrina’s pathway at one point but as far as I know we missed her. I never know what kind of weather we’re having because I have only 2 small windows that are hard to look out of in this basement apartment. I hope to change that with my upcoming move.

  13. Hi Angela, I have your new book and I’m looking forward to reading it over the coming weekend. I have enjoyed every book you’ve ever written and I know I’ll love this book as well. BTW, want happened to the 3rd book in your Mercy series. The girls in my office have been waiting on it. What’s up???? Continued Blessings to you my sister.

  14. Hi Angela. I am reading your book the Amen sisters and noted that you attended Spelman Coleege. I am a Spelmanite, as well and wanted to know what year you graduated and much contuned success….

  15. Hi Angela:

I work with Nicki Hand, and I love reading your books. But, I have been waiting a long time for the third book in the Mercy Series. Do you still have a third one coming out? If so, when?????????????? I’m not the only one anxiously awaiting the continuation of this series.

God Bless, and keep up the great writing!

  16. Hi Ms. Angela,

How are you? I am dying to read one of your books. I have been looking over your blogs and seeing that you are very talented. I am still awaiting a signed copy (hint, hint) of any book you decide to send as a wedding present.(Speaking of which was so beautiful..I will email you some pics) When I was a little younger, I wrote a few short stories, but was always scared of how other people would take my work, so I have never shared it with anyone. Bet, I’m not the only one though. Well, I know that I really can’t relate to what everyone else is on here talking about, but I wanted to make a public appearance nevertheless and make ya smile. Email me your email address that you check often because I want to ask you a couple things. “Business”

  17. Hi Angela,

Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church in Houston, Texas opened a bookstore, Chronicles, in October, 2005. We are in the midst of organizing a bookclub. “The Amen Sisters” is our first reading selection. To promote interest, we would like to create a poster including your picture and the blurp “About the Author” found on the Walk Worthy Press website. But of course, we need your permission. Our meeting is scheduled for August 27, 2006 and I would love to be able to hang the posters this Sunday, August 6, 2006. I would be pleased to email a copy of the poster to you.

I look forward to hearing favorably from you soon.

    In Christ,

    Carolyn

  18. Carolyn, I’m sorry I didn’t get your messasge before now but you are more than welcome to use the mat’ls from the web in your promotion. Let me know if there is anything more you need from me.
