What I’m Reading

All Things Hidden I love to read! I admit it. And I love talking to people about books. I don’t get to do it much, because as an author, I feel uneasy giving public commentary on the work of others. And I won’t do it here on this blog. What I will do follow in the steps of LaShaunda Hoffman and tell you what I’m reading, every now and then. I’ll just list the books with no commentary. Of course, you’re free to comment.

Because I read so widely, I’m going to restrict my list to Christian fiction titles by authors who describe their work as Christian fiction. My first reads for 2006 are/were:

All Things Hidden, Judy Candis
Shades of Gray, Jacqueline Thomas
Made of Honor, Marilynn Griffith
Sammy on Vacation, Robin Hardy

  1. Wow, I haven’t heard of any of these books, but I have recently started reading African-American Christian fiction. That’s how I was turned on to The Amen Sisters! 🙂 I didn’t even know there WAS AA Christian Fiction until I saw an advertisement for it in Black Expressions. Now I get all the books I can. Unfortunately when you go to your general bookstore, all the books listed under Christian fiction are by our Caucasian brothers and sisters. So far I’ve read: The Amen Sisters (of course), Soul Matters by Yolanda Tonette Sanders, Choose Me by Xenia Ruiz and What a Sista Should Do by Tiffany L. Warren. Some of these novels I read in one night!! They were so good I couldn’t put them down. Yesterday I received my next set: A Heart of Devotion by Tia McCollors, Seasons by Bonnie Hopkins, and Sunday Brunch by Norma L. Jarrett. I’ll let you guys know what I think, but so far, all the ones I’ve read have been excellent. Angela, thanks for the reading suggestions. I’ll check those out too! 🙂

  2. I am reading Kimerla Lawson Roby’s book, The Best Kept Secret. This is a very good book. I enjoyed Casting the First Stone and decided to read another one of her books. I LOVE to read AA Christian Fiction. I will be sure to buy some of the books listed on the site.

  3. Hi Ms. Benson! I just finished reading AMEN Sisters. I couldn’t stop reading so I finished in 1 1/2 days. I love the surprise ending for Stuart. I was completely fooled.
I love a book that can keep you quessing but not leave you hanging. I really loved this book and appreciate the strides you have made in AA Christian romance. I will be following in your footsteps. Keep writing , reading and writing some more !!! As Joel Olsteen says LIVE YOUR BEST LIFE NOW!!!

  4. Mary, Robin Hardy self-publishes her work. I read her first book a long time ago. I can’t think of the title now, but it was the first book in the Streiker series.

Geigh, I’m glad you’ve found Christian fiction. I’ll try to post every week or so with books I’m reading and you can feel free to do the same.

Vyta, thanks for posting. I didn’t know that Kim Roby categorized her work as Christian fiction. I’ve also thought of it as general fiction with a church setting, and thought she did, too.

Ewill, thanks for posting. I’m glad you enjoyed the book.
